New York Jets tight end Tyler Conklin raves about “young, hungry” Zach Wilson
Tyler Conklin joined the New York Jets this offseason as part of a strong one-two punch at tight end. The Jets expect him and their other free agent signing, C.J. Uzomah, to elevate the team’s game in the receiving, pass blocking, and run blocking facets.
Conklin joined the Jim Rome Show yesterday to talk about his new team, explaining that Zach Wilson was one of the reasons that he decided to join the Jets.
“You said part of the reason also for signing with the Jets was you liked Zach Wilson coming out of BYU. What did you see in him that got your attention?”, Rome asked.
This is what Conklin had to say:
“Well, obviously the arm talent, he can make all the throws, the arm angles, but I thought his athleticism and mobility was huge, especially for a tight end. A lot of hidden yardage, him getting out of the pocket, you know, a stick (route) turns into a 40-yard gain down the field, and just the opportunity for him to extend plays, and on top of that make all the different throws that you gotta make on the football field. Just being around a young, hungry quarterback that wants to make a name for himself, I thought it was a good fit.”

It’s always nice for Jets fans to hear that a free agent was excited to sign with the team. That’s a novelty for this franchise. As Thomas Christopher of Jets X-Factor pointed out the other day, this phenomenon is a sign that the Jets have turned a corner.
It’s even better to know that Conklin was excited to join because of the quarterback. If Zach Wilson can start playing up to his potential, others will take notice, too, and make the Jets a team worth joining.
