OT Kendall Lamm did not work out with the New York Jets

UPDATE (3:55 p.m. ET): It was initially reported that free-agent offensive tackle Kendall Lamm had worked out with the New York Jets, but the reporter who initially shared the news has now backtracked the initial report, stating that Lamm actually worked out with the New York Giants.

According to a report from Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the New York Jets have brought in free-agent offensive tackle Kendall Lamm for a workout.

The offensive tackle position is a need for the Jets, as they lack depth at the position behind projected starters George Fant and Mekhi Becton. Conor McDermott, Chuma Edoga, and Max Mitchell highlight the team’s secondary tackle options. McDermott and Edoga have struggled throughout their NFL careers while Mitchell is a fourth-round rookie coming from a mid-major school.

Additionally, with the Jets set to begin training camp tomorrow (Tuesday, July 26), Becton and Fant are both on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Neither player is expected to be sidelined for long but it is worth noting.

Lamm, 30, is entering his eighth NFL season after coming into the league in 2015 as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State. Lamm spent his first four seasons with the Houston Texans before spending two years with the Cleveland Browns. He played for the Tennessee Titans in 2021.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Lamm has played in 86 career games, starting 28 of those. Most of his career snaps have come at right tackle (1,077 snaps) but he has also played some left tackle (351 snaps). Lamm has even dabbled as a tight end/sixth offensive lineman, playing 292 snaps in that role.

In Lamm, the Jets would probably be getting a tackle who is below-average but far from atrocious – which is plenty good for a backup.

For his career, Lamm has allowed 61 total pressures on 938 pass-blocking snaps, which is a 6.5% rate. That’s slightly below-average, as it would have ranked 47th out of 67 qualified tackles in the 2021 season. The league average was 5.6%.

That’s actually even better than Morgan Moses, who served as the Jets’ top backup tackle going into 2021 and ended up starting for most of the year. Moses allowed 49 pressures on 679 pass-blocking snaps, a 7.2% rate that ranked 54th out of 67 qualifiers.
