Robert Saleh is the New York Jets leader who’s all gas and no brake.
Saleh, the fiery defensive mind whose San Francisco 49ers defense helped bring his name into the NFL mainstream, was Joe Douglas’s top choice in the 2021 offseason.
After a disappointing 4-13 record in 2021, Saleh’s Jets got out to a hot start in 2022. Once the head coach started taking receipts, New York burst out of the season gate with an encouraging 5-2 record.
Unfortunately, once Breece Hall and Alijah Vera-Tucker went down for the season in Denver, Saleh’s Jets couldn’t recover, ultimately finishing 7-10.

Robert Saleh’s coaching history began in his home state of Michigan. At some point after his playing career ended, Saleh joined Michigan State as a defensive assistant in 2002.
Just three years later, Dom Capers brought Robert Saleh into the Houston Texans organization as a defensive intern, which Saleh parlayed into an assistant linebackers position in 2009.
He took his talents to the Seattle Seahawks in 2011 as a defensive quality control coach, which paid off in 2013 when the organization won the Super Bowl—at MetLife Stadium. After a three-year stint as the Jacksonville Jaguars linebackers coach, the San Francisco 49ers brought him aboard as the defensive coordinator in 2017.
Of course, Saleh and Kyle Shanahan reached the heights of the Super Bowl, almost coming away with a championship ring.
These days, the New York Jets head coach is targeting another Super Bowl victory—this time as the head coach.
