The team will have three of their most important players back at full strength in time for practices to begin
New York Jets fans can breathe a sigh of relief: Mekhi Becton is ready to go.
Less than a week after placing Becton on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, the Jets have removed the designation, making him a full go for practice.
Becton looked fit as he reported for training camp today. The last hurdle for him to clear was passing a physical, which he apparently did.

The Jets also activated defensive end Carl Lawson and tight end C.J. Uzomah from the PUP, leaving offensive tackle George Fant the lone remaining player on the list as he recovers from offseason knee surgery.

The question now moves on to whether the Jets’ left tackle position will be open for legitimate competition. Head coach Robert Saleh said that it will be a two-way battle between Becton and Fant, with the loser expected to move over to right tackle.
Fant was the presumed favorite to win the competition after posting the best season of his career in 2021. He probably still has a leg up until Becton can prove that he is back to his 2020 form.
One of the biggest question marks of the Jets offseason just got a little less thorny. There had been endless speculation about Becton’s weight and conditioning and whether he would even play in a Jets uniform ever again. The news that he was activated off the PUP list, coupled with the photos of him coming into camp in shape, should ease coaches’ and fans’ minds a bit heading into 2022.
Other Jets moves:
- The Jets have placed running back Tevin Coleman on the active/non-football injury list, the Jets team website reports.
- The team has signed QB Chris Streveler, WR Rashard Davis (as Jet X reported earlier), and OL Isaiah Williams.
- WR D.J. Montgomery, recently-signed CB Craig James, and OL Dru Samia were released today, per the Jets’ Twitter handle.
