The NFL’s Griddy pioneer rates the New York Jets quarterback’s version of the dance
The “Griddy” has taken the NFL by storm. It’s become arguably the most common touchdown dance in the league – possibly even the entire sport.
New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson is the latest player to pull out the move. In the second quarter of an eventual 24-20 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson caught a touchdown pass from Braxton Berrios to put the Jets up 10-0, and he responded with his best shot at the Griddy.
THE CATCH.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is the man credited with popularizing the dance. During his time at LSU, Jefferson learned the dance from his teammate Ja’Marr Chase, whose friend Allen Davis is the dance’s original creator. Jefferson brought the dance onto the national stage after scoring touchdowns for the Tigers. Once he came to the NFL, Jefferson continued using it, and it would soon spread around the league.
Naturally, Wilson wanted Jefferson’s opinion on his execution of the move in Pittsburgh.
On Instagram, Wilson posted a video that shows a side-by-side comparison of him and Jefferson doing the Griddy. Wilson’s caption read, “Hey Justin, what would you rate my Griddy?”

Jefferson seems to approve. In the comments, Jefferson replied by saying Wilson was “hitting it”, and he gave Wilson’s Griddy a score of 9/10.

Perhaps Wilson and Jefferson can have a Griddy competition when the Jets visit the Vikings in Week 13 (December 4, 1 p.m. ET).
