Film review from New York Jets’ win over Buffalo: Zach Wilson turns it around, defense seizes control, coaching staff makes strong adjustments

Just when it seemed the New York Jets were done, they shocked the NFL and beat the Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills.

After a four-game win streak was ended by the division rival New England Patriots, the Jets’ season outlook became slightly more bleak. With the 6-1 Bills coming into town, it felt likely that the Jets were facing a two-game losing streak and a 5-4 record, dropping them out of the AFC playoff picture entering the bye week.

The full, member-only Jets-Bills film breakdown (3:02:42 in length) can be found at the bottom of this article (must be a Jets X-Factor member and logged into the site).

Before the season, most Jets fans certainly would’ve signed up for a 5-4 record at the bye. However, considering the surprising 5-2 start, it would have placed the team in a disheartening position to enter the bye coming off back-to-back home losses within the division. The road to the playoffs would become far more difficult down the stretch.

But the Jets had other plans, defeating the heavily-favored Bills by a final score of 20-17 to enter the bye week on a massive high. Now, the Jets are 6-3 and in prime position to compete for a playoff spot – or maybe even the AFC East division crown.

New York was firing on all cylinders in the victory. Zach Wilson turned his season around with a sharp performance. The defense rebounded from a rough start to shut down the highest-scoring offense in the NFL. The coaching staff cooked up successful gameplans on both sides of the ball.

To see exactly how the Jets were able to pull off the upset, we turn to the film.

  • Just how much better was Zach Wilson?
  • How did the Jets defense stifle Josh Allen?
  • Who were some of the underrated contributors to the win?

All of these questions are answered and much more on this edition of Blewett’s Blitz!
