New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles: A Rivalry Restored

  • 1. Philadelphia Eagles (14-3)
  • 6. New York Giants (9-7-1)
  • 2022 NFL Postseason, Divisional Round
  • Saturday, January 21, 2023, 8:15 p.m. EST, FOX
  • Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA

The 14-3 Philadelphia Eagles will host NFC East rival New York Giants on Saturday night at Lincoln Financial Field for the second game of Divisional Weekend. It is the third meeting between these two teams as the Eagles won both games during the regular season.

In the first Eagles vs. Giants matchup in 2022, Philadelphia steamrolled the Giants 48-22 in what was the worst loss of the season for New York. They faced each other again in Week 18 where the Eagles took care of business 22-16 clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

As well as these two teams know each in the regular season, they have not met in the playoffs as many times as you may think. The Giants and Eagles have only played each other four times in the postseason as each team split two a piece.

There are not many better rivalries in the NFL than the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles. When these two teams get together, it is usually must-watch football with plenty of bad blood between these sports cities.

The New York Jets play the Eagles and Giants in 2023

The New York Jets are scheduled to host the Philadelphia Eagles and play on the road against the New York Giants in 2023. Of course, both games will be played at Metlife Stadium.

Unfortunately, the New York Jets have yet to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the regular season. Their all-time record is 0-12 vs. Philadelphia going back to their first game in 1973.

The Jets have performed better against the Giants, beating them in the last two meetings in 2015 and 2019. However, the Giants lead the all-time series 8-6.

As of Thursday night, the Giants are 7.5-point road underdogs at Fanduel Sportsbook. The total is set at 48.5 points.

This is an interesting game because both teams have already faced each other twice this
season. Being division opponents, these teams and coaches know each other very well.

If I was to bet on this game, I would most likely play the underdog Giants with 7.5 points. New York plays well on defense and can run the ball, both of which travel in the NFL postseason.

New York’s game plan should be to run the football and shorten the game to keep Jalen Hurts and the potent Philly offense off the field. If they can do that, this should be a close game staying within the spread.

The Giants are also the healthiest of the two teams. Azeez Ojulari is the only player on their injury report who is questionable, everyone else will play.

Philadelphia is dealing with a few important injuries. Avante Maddox has already been ruled out for Saturday. Jalen Hurts will play but is still recovering from a shoulder injury that held him out of two games.

I expect the Giants will be able to keep this game close and give the Eagles all they can handle.
