A former favorite weapon of Aaron Rodgers thinks a different QB should be the NY Jets’ primary target
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have been linked since the start of the offseason. But that relationship could become more complicated now that Derek Carr is officially a free agent.
One of Rodgers’ former teammates pinpointed Carr, not Rodgers, as the quarterback New York should target.
Former Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings believes that out of all the potential suitors Derek Carr will have, the Jets are the best fit.
“I think the New York Jets is a perfect spot,” said Jennings, per The 33rd Team. “When you think about what they have already on their roster, it’s ready-made with the insertion of a [quality] quarterback. The Jets wouldn’t have to give anything up; they can just acquire Derek Carr for whatever that contract will look like and whatever he’s trying to get.”
Instead of taking on Carr’s $40.4 million salary over the next two years, teams are now able to make their pitch and potentially secure a longer and more team-friendly contract.
For the Jets, that sales pitch could be quite intriguing to Carr.
The Jets’ offense has studs at every skill position. Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore could become an incredible duo with the right quarterback play, while the team boasts a top-of-the-line RB duo in Breece Hall and Michael Carter. At tight end, Tyler Conklin and C.J. Uzomah are a solid pairing.
The team also hired Todd Downing, who spent three years with Derek Carr on the Raiders.
It’s hard for anyone to claim the Jets aren’t a team on the rise. The Jets’ roster has so much potential that even a former teammate of Aaron Rodgers believes they’d be a perfect fit for Derek Carr.
The Jets will have competition attracting Derek Carr to New York. But if the team is able to sign the former Raiders quarterback, it could be a match made in heaven.
