The long-time New York Jets fan and “Everybody Loves Raymond” star talks Aaron Rodgers at ACC tournament
It’s safe to say there’s excitement surrounding the New York Jets this season now that Aaron Rodgers is under center – and that sentiment doesn’t stop at the average fan.
Everybody Loves Raymond star Ray Romano, a lifelong Jets fan, got a chance to speak to the team’s newest quarterback at the 34th annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament, where Rodgers currently sits in fifth place after three rounds.
The two have met before at previous tournaments, but the feeling hit a little differently for Romano now that Rodgers is leading Gang Green into action this season.
“I’ve got cautious excitement,” said Romano. “I’m excited for the obvious reasons. We have a Hall of Fame quarterback coming. We have some great young guys – gotta keep them healthy … I’m cautious because I’ve been a Jets fan for a long time. And nothing against the Jets, but things happen in football. I would lie if I said there wasn’t excitement. I just don’t want to admit to it.”
The Everybody Loves Raymond star wasn’t the only Romano lush with excitement. His three sons Gregory, Matthew, and Joseph were present at the tournament as well, and all are huge Jets fans.
“My boys are super die-hard Jets fans,” Romano said. “They wanted to say hello to him [Rodgers], so we went over and said hello.”
The future first-ballot Hall of Famer has been embraced by fans, and in return, has embraced New York quicker than anyone had expected. The 39-year-old has been seen everywhere in the metropolitan area, and you can be sure that it isn’t by accident.
“I said [to Rodgers], ‘You’re one of us’ now. We talked about ‘Hard Knocks‘. And he was positive [about the Jets’ season]. He said it looks good.”
