New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh is drawing praise in the national media for his comments
The New York Jets’ defense is gaining national attention after its incredible performance against the Philadelphia Eagles.
During the show that carries his namesake on ESPN, Pat McAfee had some high praise for Robert Saleh and the Jets’ defense. In particular, McAfee lauded Saleh’s statement that the Jets have “embarrassed” every quarterback they’ve faced.

McAfee said that he “loves the way Saleh is talking his s—” and how the Jets head coach takes pride in the defense’s performance. The media personality referenced the Bills, Chiefs, and Eagles games as dominant performances for the team’s defense.
“We wondered if this Buffalo Bills team was going to be god-awful because of how Josh and that offense performed against the New York Jets… Week 4, they take on Patrick Mahomes. Although the Chiefs won, if you remember, there was a lot of talk after that game, like, that was the worst Patrick Mahomes has played in the NFL… Maybe the defense was forcing that to happen, said McAfee.
“And then you take a look at yesterday with Jalen Hurts and this Philadelphia Eagles team. Jalen looked nothing like the Jalen Hurts we have seen since he’s become the starter for the Philadelphia Eagles.”
Later in the show, McAfee shared some stats about the Jets and their performance yesterday. The host mentioned that the Jets have only allowed one second-half touchdown the entire season and have only lost the turnover battle one time in six games.
Here's some Interesting Stats from @PaulHembo about the New York Jets defense
🔘They've allowed one TD in the second half the entire season
🔘They've only lost the turnover battle once in six games
🔘Jalen Hurts was pressured twenty times yesterday and that's six more than any… https://t.co/3a3Nr2gJI5 pic.twitter.com/EsWrEF6bMC— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) October 16, 2023
Despite some of their first-half struggles, the Jets’ defense has been as good as advertised for most of this season. They are shutting down offenses in the second half of games, giving the offense a chance to take away or build leads.
After their bye week, the Jets’ schedule eases up to a considerable degree. Only four of their remaining 11 games are against teams that currently have a winning record.
If the defense continues to play at the level they have shown, McAfee will be far from the last person praising Saleh and the overall unit.
