New York Giants DC Wink Martindale praised Zach Wilson and Breece Hall

Speaking to the media, New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale had praise for two young New York Jets starters: quarterback Zach Wilson and running back Breece Hall.

On Wilson, the defensive coordinator spoke about the impact he thinks Aaron Rodgers had on the former BYU quarterback.

“You can tell that Zach has been around greatness, and you guys know how I feel about Aaron Rodgers. You can tell how the guy’s confidence has grown playing the position,” said Martindale.

Martindale had even higher praise for the Jets’ star running back, Breece Hall.

“The biggest challenge we’re gonna have is that running back, cause he’s special. You can tell that Breece Hall has really come back from his injury. He’s one step & gone, so we need all 11 to get to him,” said Martindale.

While not performing like a high-level offense, the Jets still have a few weapons that the Giants defense has to prepare for, including Hall. Leading the NFL with 6.5 yards per carry, Hall’s running skills could be problematic for a Giants defense that ranks 29th with 5.0 yards per carry allowed. Hall also has excellent receiving ability, making the Giants defense have to prepare for a dual-threat.

Wilson, even with his struggles this season, has been playing better as of late. He has made some timely throws and is protecting the football. These factors have helped keep the Jets in games and move the ball down the field when necessary.

There are plenty of areas the Jets can and need to be better in on offense, namely on third down and in the red zone. Wilson needs to continue to develop and prove that the progress he has made is legitimate. If the Jets’ third-year quarterback can build off his prior performances while Hall continues his production, the Jets will be in a great spot to beat the Giants and many other teams.
