Is this the end of the Bill Belichick era?

There’s no denying that Bill Belichick is going to one day be enshrined in Canton. He’s one of the greatest coaches and executives to ever live. However, his time on the field seems to be rapidly coming to an end.

Since Tom Brady left New England for the warmer weather of Tampa Bay, it’s been rocky for the Pats. Belichick’s team is just 27-32 since Brady’s departure. That includes a 2-7 start to this season.

Belichick did reportedly sign a new contract with the Patriots this offseason that extended his stay with the team, likely in an effort to get him the most wins of all time. However, that dream seems far away right now.

Now before I go any further, Robert Kraft is never going to fire Belichick. He respects him and his legacy too much to ever do that. So, this will have to come from Belichick if he does want to retire. And the rumors are swirling.

One report says the Pats believe that former star linebacker and current linebacker Coach Jerod Mayo is set to succeed his former coach. Of course, there were plenty of reports about Josh McDaniels for years as well.

He eventually left. Mayo is likely to continue to be an in-demand head coach candidate for other teams, the Pats will only be able to hold onto him for so long if Belichick won’t leave.

So at what point does the future of the franchise take precedence over Belchick’s ego-driven need to surpass Don Shula’s wins record? This offseason seems like the perfect time. A high draft pick, a new quarterback likely coming in, and tons of cap space. It’s the perfect time to start anew. But will they?

If not then when? That’s why we have to seriously ask ourselves, have we reached the end of the Bill Belichick era?

Colts vs. Patriots Odds

The NFL is back in Germany this week when the Indianapolis Colts take on the New England Patriots. A rivalry once made famous by the battles between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, these two teams are now shells of their early 2000s selves.

Still, it’s worth looking at what bet365 has to say about their 2023 matchup.

The Colts are currently 2 point favorites in this one. They’re technically road favorites here, which means they’re road favorites in back-to-back weeks. They haven’t been favorites in consecutive road games since 2020 when they were favored to beat the Titans and Texans.

They’d go to win, and cover, in both games.

The Colts are currently given -130 odds on the moneyline if you’d prefer to bet on an outright winner. Meanwhile, the Patriots are given +110 odds to get their third win of the season and avoid tying their worst-ever start to a season under Bill Belichick, the 2000 Patriots were 2-8.

Jets vs. Raiders Odds

  • New York Jets -1 (-110) at Las Vegas Raiders
  • Las Vegas Raiders +1 (-110) vs New York Jets
  • New York Jets -115 moneyline at Las Vegas Raiders
  • Las Vegas Raiders -105 moneyline vs. New York Jets
  • Over-Under Point Total 36.5 (O/U -110)

On Sunday night, a familiar primetime team yet again takes the stage without its star quarterback. It’ll be the New York Jets without Aaron Rodgers, once again, in primetime.

Playing in Sin City, Zach Wilson’s Jets take on the 4-5 Las Vegas Raiders, and Robert Saleh’s squad desperately needs a victory after their porous effort against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9.

Can the Jets improve to 5-4 and stay right in the thick of the AFC playoff race?
