Can Jordan Love Do what Aaron Rodgers Never Could?

Aaron Rodgers is, without a doubt, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He’s done just about everything anybody could ever do in the league.

He’s won an MVP award (four times), a Super Bowl, and led the NFL in one stat or another at a point in his career. But there’s one thing that he’s never done in his illustrious career, and that’s beat the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL playoffs.

It’s not for lack of trying. Rodgers and the 49ers met in the playoffs four times.

In 2012, Colin Kaepernick beat Rodgers in the former’s first career playoff game, en route to a Super Bowl appearance. The very next year, Kaepernick broke the Packers’ hearts again.

In the 2019 NFC Championship game, Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers dominated Rodgers’ Packers. And in 2021, Rodgers and the Packers offense was held to just 10 points in a playoff defeat after Rodgers won the MVP award.

Those losses are a stain on Rodgers and the Packers. Three of those four games were held at Lambeau Field, and the Packers are 4-1 in the playoffs against the 49ers with any other quarterback starting.

Still, the Packers have lost five of their last six playoff games to the 49ers. Even Brett Favre lost one in 1998, a game now referred to as The Catch II (featuring Terrell Owens). Their lone playoff victory over the 49ers in recent memory came in 2001.

Jordan Love has a chance to rewrite some history and make a mark on the Packers franchise—re-establishing the dominance that they held in the mid-1990s. And, of course, this would accomplish something that his predecessor, a legend and future Hall of Famer, could never do.

BetMGM NFL Playoff Odds: Packers vs. 49ers

The 49ers are the massive favorites in this one. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that the Packers are the first No. 7 seed to ever reach the divisional round.

San Francisco is a 9.5-point favorite in this one. The Niners are given -450 odds to win the game outright. Meanwhile, the Packers are given +360 odds to pull off the upset.

Those are significantly longer odds than Green Bay was given last week.

Offense is expected to be the focal point in this one. The point total is set at over/under 50.5 points in this one, which is by far the largest point total of the NFL playoffs to date.
