NY Jets’ Breece Hall confronted by autograph seeker at airport

While at the airport, an irate autograph seeker tried to get aggressive with the New York Jets’ star running back

Autographs are meant for a specific time and place, and one autograph seeker learned that the hard way.

In a video posted by TMZ Sports, an angry autograph seeker tried to get confrontational with star New York Jets running back Breece Hall when he apparently denied the request.

After New York Giants legend Carl Banks stepped in, the man tried to get a reaction out of Hall by saying, “If you want to slap me, slap me,” and that they could take it outside.

After the video was posted, the running back responded on Twitter by saying, “There’s a time and a place for everything, but harassing me at baggage claim ain’t the time or place.”

The situation underscores the importance of understanding that athletes are not always at the whims of fans.

Hall is not obliged to sign an autograph at any time, let alone when he is trying to get luggage at the airport. People who do not play professional sports would not want to be harassed at the airport. They would want the ability to operate normally without someone trying to cause an issue for them.

Being a star NFL running back does not change that fact. A more public-facing image should not mean that Hall is not allowed to go about his business. It should not prevent him from performing a daily task that thousands of people do.

Ultimately, the incident shows that people need to do a better job of remembering that players are not obligated to every request. Players have their lives to go about, and even if they are fantastic to fans like Hall, there is a wrong time to ask them for favors like signing an autograph.
