ESPN doesn’t think the New York Jets have improved significantly
Add ESPN Bet to the list of New York Jets doubters.
The sportsbook set the Jets’ over/under for 2024 victories at 9.5.
#Jets over-under win total is 9.5, per @ESPNBet. So, basically, Rodgers is worth 2.5 wins. The rest of the division:
Bills: 10.5
Dolphins: 9.5
Patriots: 4.5— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) March 28, 2024
To be fair, that’s the same as it was in 2023. The books are simply not sold that the Jets are legitimate contenders.
The Jets tying with Miami is interesting given each team’s offseason thus far. The Dolphins lost defensive tackle Christian Wilkins and guard Robert Hunt, two key cogs in their team. Their most significant signing was edge rusher Shaq Barrett. After Miami crumbled against winning teams in 2023, their questions surround the team’s talent rather than injuries.
To infuriate Jets fan Mike Greenberg, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky picked the under for the Jets.
“As talented as they are, and I think they’re Super Bowl contenders on paper, that paper where it’s written is in pencil,” Orlovsky explained. He pointed to the Jets’ significant injury concerns as a reason for his pessimism.
Of course, the draft could change things significantly for all AFC East teams (yes, even the Patriots). Buffalo could re-stock their defense and add another receiving weapon for Josh Allen. Miami could replace Wilkins and revamp their defense. The Jets could gain a third receiving weapon for Aaron Rodgers and secure their offensive line depth. New England could pick their quarterback of the future and also add offensive weaponry.
This discussion will be more interesting once the draft is over. For now, though, ESPN’s win line shows the general opinion that the Jets are good enough to compete for a playoff spot but nothing more.
The only thing to do is to prove the doubters wrong — on the field.
