Appearing on the “Roommates Show,” Chad Johnson praised the legendary status of Darrelle Revis
Chad Johnson showed his respect for a legendary New York Jet, even outside the football media space.
Appearing on the “Roommates Show,” hosted by the New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, the former star wideout gave cornerback Darrelle Revis a large amount of credit as a player.
“Probably the one time I was ever stopped back to back. And listen, his (Revis) 2009 season should go down in history as the best season of all time for any DB. Regardless of past DBs’ accolades,” said Johnson.
“What he did that year to all of the greats, to Calvin Johnson, myself, Steve Smith, Terrelle Owens. He shut everybody down. He’s deserving of that Hall-of-Fame jacket, and he’s one that I give the utmost respect to. He’s the real deal.”

Johnson is right in his assessment. Revis was one of the last true lockdown cornerbacks before the NFL shifted toward benefiting the offense.
In his legendary 2009 season, Revis only allowed 41 receptions on 111 targets, amounting to a ridiculous reception percentage of 36.9%. In addition to the players Johnson mentioned, Revis shut down the likes of Randy Moss, Reggie Wayne, and Torry Holt.
Revis never blinked; in 2009, he held eight of the league’s best wide receivers to under 35 yards.

Revis, who lived up to the moniker of “Revis Island” throughout his career, is the blueprint of what an upper-echelon cornerback should play like. Revis’s lockdown ability and knack for creating turnovers caused teams to avoid him entirely, creating a sense of fear around throwing near him.
There are many great cornerbacks in today’s NFL, and the Jets’ Sauce Gardner is on track to be a similar player to him.
But as Johnson said, Revis’s 2009 season and overall career are among the best of all time, and it will be very hard for anyone to reach his level.
