Joe Alt might not be the slam-dunk New York Jets target that you think
When it comes to NFL Draft talk, groupthink usually prevails. Whatever the public consensus is, that’s the truth. If you dare to have an opinion that strays too far from the agreed-upon big board, you’re just flat-out wrong.
Notre Dame tackle Joe Alt is viewed as the consensus OT1 in the 2024 draft class by a fairly wide margin. He is largely seen as a slam-dunk pick who is unlikely to fall to the New York Jets at No. 10.
However, a closer look at Alt’s film reveals that he may not be the clear-out OT1 that most people seem to think.
Blewett’s Blitz draft film reviews:
- Penn State OT Olu Fashanu
- Georgia TE Brock Bowers
- Alabama OT JC Latham
- Washington WR Rome Odunze
- Oklahoma State OT Taliese Fuaga
This is a take that will probably surprise many Jets fans, but it’s all backed up by the film. While Alt may have a spotless reputation in terms of stats and reputation, his tape tells a different story. There are a number of technical deficiencies in his game that may not have hurt him in college, but could come back to haunt him in the NFL if they are not fixed.
Don’t believe me? Well, let’s run through the film together and look at some plays that exemplify why Alt is a slightly overrated prospect.
This is not to say Alt is a “bad” prospect by any means – he is still a good prospect who deserves to go high in the first round. He just isn’t the obvious OT1 that the general public views him as.
