Breaking down Braelon Allen’s strengths and weaknesses on film

The running back position was viewed as a need for the New York Jets entering the 2024 NFL draft. Outside of Breece Hall, their only option was Israel Abanikanda, a 2023 fifth-round pick who didn’t stand out in his rookie year.

The Jets clearly agreed, as they added not one but two running backs on the third day of the draft. The first of those two was Braelon Allen, chosen in the fourth round with the 134th overall pick.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and 235 pounds, the bruising Wisconsin back fits nicely into the Jets’ transition to a power-running offense. Allen is expected to bring the “thump” behind Breece Hall in the Jets’ running back room. But what else should fans know about his game? Does he offer more on top of his power and size? And what are the weaknesses that caused him to fall into the fourth round?

In the newest Blewett’s Blitz film review, we break down 46 plays from Allen’s 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Wisconsin Badgers, showcasing a complete view of both the positives and the negatives in his game. Plus, a full list of his strengths and weaknesses can be found at the bottom of the page.
