The former New York Jets star is back in the AFC
Former New York Jets safety Jamal Adams has received another NFL opportunity.
Per ESPN, Adams is back on an NFL roster after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans.
Adams is a three-time Pro Bowler and a three-time All-Pro, earning two of each as a member of the Jets from 2018-19. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2019.
Adams was selected by the Jets as the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, quickly emerging as one of the league’s premier safeties. When Adams was up for an extension after the 2019 season, the Jets elected to trade him to Seattle instead of paying him. In exchange for Adams, the Jets received two first-round picks and a third-round pick, a package that amounted to Alijah Vera-Tucker and Garrett Wilson.
Adams’s first season with the Seahawks was promising, as he set the single-season sack record for safeties (9.5) and made his third Pro Bowl. After the season, the Seahawks extended Adams by signing him to a four-year, $72 million deal.
Since signing his extension, Adams has struggled with injuries. He tore his labrum in 2021, missing five games. Then, in the 2022 season opener, Adams tore the quadriceps tendon above his left knee, which left Adams sidelined for the remainder of the 2022 season and the first three games of 2023. After returning, the knee injury continued to bother him, prompting the Seahawks to shut him down for the final four games of the year.
The Seahawks cut Adams on March 5. In four years with the team, Adams played in only 34 games.
Adams will now be competing against Amani Hooker and Elijah Molden for the starting safety job in Nashville. The Jets will visit the Titans in Week 2, potentially giving Adams an opportunity to face his former team.
