Davante Adams’ agents have had enough of the New York Jets talk
With the rumors linking Davante Adams to the New York Jets spreading like wildfire, Adams’ agents released a statement through ESPN’s Adam Schefter to try and fan the flames.
Per Schefter, Adams’ agents Kenny Chapman and Frank Bauer stated, “This is baseless, unfounded speculation and Davante is expected to be with the Raiders as there has been absolutely no trade talk – period.”

Adams’ agents aren’t necessarily wrong here. None of the recent Adams chatter stemmed from concrete information. It was all mere speculation stirred up by media talking heads, with Jets players egging it on. People also read too deep into Aaron Rodgers’ comment saying he “can’t wait” to play with Adams; Rodgers was talking about golf, not football.
Based on the reports that have been shared publicly, the Raiders have yet to show any interest in dealing Adams. It was reported that the Jets attempted to trade for Adams at last year’s trade deadline, but the Raiders did not pick up their calls. This offseason, Adams has endorsed the Raiders’ decision to retain Antonio Pierce as their head coach. Overall, Las Vegas has operated like an organization that intends to compete this season rather than rebuild (even if their quarterback situation suggests that might be the wrong move).
Due to both teams’ respective situations, Adams’ link to Aaron Rodgers, and Adams’ contract structure, a trade between New York and Las Vegas could still happen at some point. It just seems extremely unlikely to happen before the regular season. Perhaps if the Raiders quickly implode while the Jets feel like they are one piece away, the two teams could begin having real conversations ahead of the November 5 trade deadline. For now, nothing seems imminent.
