Notorious NY Jets-hating analyst has done it yet again

The New York Jets hate continues to spew from one analyst

New York Jets, meet your biggest hater: Fox Sports “analyst” Colin Cowherd.

Cowherd has a history of ludicrous takes about the Jets, particularly concerning Aaron Rodgers. This time, though, he’s outdone himself.

Cowherd claimed the Jets could be a six-win team in 2024.

Note: the Jets won seven games in back-to-back seasons with the NFL’s worst quarterback and offensive line play. They’ve had a top-six defense in the league in back-to-back seasons. They signed one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league in Tyrod Taylor. Pro Football Focus ranked every level of their defense tops in the NFL.

“A lot of people in my space don’t want to be honest about big market teams that have large and loud fan bases, but we have to be honest about the New York Jets,” Cowherd stated. “They’re an 8-9 win team, tops. That’s the top, and I could see 6 and 7 wins.”

Once again, he took his shots at Rodgers, decrying the quarterback’s lack of comebacks in playoff games. Rodgers has only one comeback victory in 22 career postseason contests. Cowherd claimed, “He’s more of a bailer than a baller. … When he plays poorly early, he quit, that he’s not a thoughtful guy, he’s just brilliantly gifted.”

Of course, Cowherd pulled out the Tom Brady comparison, lauding Brady as a leader while dismissing Rodgers as merely a talented player who doesn’t lead. The entire Jets roster begs to differ, to the point that the team was completely devastated and bereft of leadership once Rodgers went down.

As for Rodgers’ relative lack of playoff success, compare his career postseason numbers to Peyton Manning’s and Tom Brady’s on a per-17-game basis:

  • Rodgers: 4,554 passing yards, 35 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 100.1 passer rating
  • Manning: 4,621 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, 87.4 passer rating
  • Brady: 4,746 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, 89.8 passer rating

Yes, Brady has seven rings, while Manning has two and Rodgers only has one. But Manning’s second Super Bowl came purely in spite of him rather than because of him. Does anyone accuse Manning of not being a leader? Did he ever face such vitriol in his time in the NFL, even while getting into a screaming match with his center on the sideline? If Rodgers ever did such a thing, he would never hear the end of it.

While Jets X-Factor keeps reporting about analysts like Cowherd because of the offseason lull, the main purpose of it is to take receipts on such ridiculous takes. The Jets may not get what they expect this season, but winning below seven games is virtually impossible.

Take receipts on that.
