Betting on the New York Jets is usually a poor prospect if you’re a fan of the team. At least, if you’re going to bet the over. The Jets have a habit of breaking their fans’ hearts.

But when you’re not a fan? Then you’re adding some skin in the game, but it’s still wise to take the under. One well-known radio host isn’t heeding that advice, though.

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo is a former host of WFAN New York’s Mike and the Mad Dog Show and is now the long-time host of Mad Dog Unleashed on Sirius XM. He also hosts ESPN’s First Take show.

On the Dan Patrick Show, Patrick asked Russo what the most he ever bet on a sporting event is. He answered that he’s going to bet on the Jets to win over 9.5 games this season. He then told Patrick to choose a reasonable amount for the bet. Patrick responded, “You’ve been called cheap… by Mike Francesa (his former co-host)… I’m going to say $2,500.”

Russo replied, “$10,000.”

To be fair, that’s not the only $10,000 bet Russo will place. He said he’s going to bet 3-4 teams at that amount, including the Falcons (over/under 9.5) and Rams (8.5).

“I can’t take the money with me, for crying out loud,” Russo exclaimed.

Patrick pointed out, “But your family can.”

Russo fired back, “Let them earn it themselves!” He commented that in 2023, he bet under 11.5 for the Eagles, who started 10-1 before losing five of their last six games to finish under 11.5 wins. On the flip side, he bet over 9.5 wins for the Jaguars, who started 8-3 before finishing 9-8. “You win some, you lose some,” he said.

Jets fans certainly hope Russo wins his bet on New York. If not, he’ll be down $10K, but fans will likely be down all hope for this team.
