Dion Dawkins has had fun this offseason shooting his mouth off about the New York Jets. Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson already trolled Dawkins in response. Solomon Thomas’ take, however, was exactly on point in exposing the hypocrisy of Dawkins’ words.
Peter Schrager and Kyle Brandt of NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” interviewed Thomas at Jets camp. Brandt asked Thomas for his reaction to Dawkins’ declaration, “I hate [the Jets]. All of them. There are people who play the sport because they love the sport, and there are players who play the sport just to look cool. Those are a bunch of guys who just want to take pictures on IG [Instagram]. That’s whack.”

Thomas coolly responded that he prefers to let his play do the talking. But then he added, “I do think it’s interesting that you have a guy telling us we like to take IG pictures when he’s on the podcast with his shirt off.”
Burn.
Thomas was referring to the fact that Dawkins was shirtless while making those podcast comments about the Jets. It’s one thing to mock Dawkins for having his shirt off, which Gardner and Wilson already did. But to connect that right back to Dawkins’ own comments about the Jets is a perfect response.
The mostly one-sided war of words between Dawkins and the Jets will be resolved on the field rather than off it. The Jets have had significant success against Josh Allen in recent years, holding him well below his usual standard in three of their previous four matchups. Thomas likely has October 14 and December 29 circled on his calendar.
Dawkins might be a good player, but the Jets’ defensive line is punishing, too. It will be a strength-against-strength situation. Of the two sides, though, Dawkins has far more pressure to put his money where his mouth is.
