As the New York Jets prepare for their Week 2 matchup against the Tennessee Titans, they will likely be without Haason Reddick for their second consecutive regular season contest. After trading for Reddick in April, Reddick has yet to report to the Jets facility as he seeks a contract extension.
On Wednesday, multiple NFL executives told ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler that they believe New York’s likeliest outcome is to eventually trade Reddick.

An anonymous NFC executive told ESPN, “Not sure they have a choice [but to trade Reddick]. … They wouldn’t get similar value back [a third-rounder], but it would be hard [for the Jets] to pay him at this point, and he clearly doesn’t want to be there. Both sides badly mismanaged the situation.”
On August 12, Reddick officially requested a trade from the Jets organization. However, Jets general manager Joe Douglas immediately released a public statement that made it clear the Jets will not trade Reddick.
The Temple product has accumulated over $5 million in fines throughout his holdout, including $800,000 for missing the team’s Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Reddick must show up to the Jets by Week 10, or his contract will toll into next season.
Connor Hughes of SNY reported earlier this year that Reddick is seeking a multi-year extension worth $25-28 million per season.
It is safe to say Reddick’s play over the past few seasons has been nothing short of elite. The 29-year-old has recorded 50.5 sacks over the past four seasons, including 16 in 2022, when he finished fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
Without Reddick, New York’s defensive line struggled in a season-opening loss against the San Francisco 49ers. The Jets allowed 180 rushing yards while their defensive linemen combined for just two quarterback hits. The defensive front will attempt to improve in a Week 2 matchup against Will Levis and the Titans.
