During the New York Jets’ 24-3 drubbing of the New England Patriots, Jets head coach Robert Saleh was seen having an interesting interaction with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

After the game, Saleh shot down any drama about the moment. The head coach simply stated that it revolved around “wanting to see something from the defense” after the Jets went up by two scores.

Saleh was pleased with the overall performance of the team in Week 3.

Regarding the performance of Rodgers, Saleh called his mobility “what we’ve been seeing since training camp.”

“Like I said, he may not be what he used to be, but he still has plenty in those legs, and his arm’s still 30, and his mind’s still operating at a high level. He was definitely impressive today.”

Additionally, Saleh spoke about the quarterback’s connection with Garrett Wilson at this point of the season.

“Garrett’s a special athlete, a special route runner, and he’s got so much wiggle. He is so special with regard to improvisation in terms of his route running. They’ll get closer. They’ll keep working together. It’s only Week 3. It is such a long season, and those two will only improve.”

Regarding the defense, Saleh said Jamien Sherwood “did a good job” filling in for the injured C.J. Mosley again. He also spoke about the team’s run defense and the strides it has made.

“Yeah, credit to San Francisco, I’ll go back to them with the way they ran it, taught us a couple of things with regards to the things that we needed to get fixed, and I felt like last week we defended the run very well. I know the quarterback had the scrambles. And then this week, it felt like against that team, their backs are pretty damn good. I feel like we did a pretty good job.”

The head coach also spoke about the upcoming off days after playing three games in 10 days.

“Yeah, I think everybody needs it. It’s well-deserved, especially from our players. It’s not easy to go all the way out west and then come out and travel again. Doesn’t happen very often. And then, to get this short week, I thought our guys did a great job preparing themselves. I’ve said it to them a million times: no one cares how you get to the game, and you are expected to perform. I thought our guys attacked the week, the last couple weeks really, to make sure they were on top of their bodies and staying physically fit.”

For as much heat as Saleh has taken, the fact that the Jets are 2-1 in this absurd stretch is extremely impressive. Not every coach would have their team ready to win two of three games in 10 days.

Saleh and company must continue to build upon their 2-1 foundation, though. Their goals are nowhere near completed, and while they are off to a great start, the majority of the mountain still has to be climbed.
