The inevitable has finally arrived.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets have acquired wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, forming a long-awaited reunion with his former Green Bay Packers teammate, quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Jets are giving up a conditional third-round pick that can turn into a second-round pick.

Schefter adds that the Raiders are not paying any of Adams’ remaining salary, meaning the Jets are taking on the remaining balance.

The trade comes mere hours after the Jets’ third consecutive loss, a frustrating 23-20 loss to the division rival Buffalo Bills in which the Jets squandered numerous opportunities to take control of the game in the second half.

In their first game under new offensive play caller Todd Downing, the Jets offense looked rejuvenated when it came to moving the football (393 total yards), but they struggled mightily to finish drives, scoring one touchdown on four red zone trips. The Jets hope that Adams, who has the second-most receiving touchdowns among active players (96), can help them improve in that area.

New York’s wide receiver unit is now comprised of Adams, Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mike Williams, Xavier Gipson, Irvin Charles, and Malachi Corley. Adams joins Lazard as the second former teammate of Rodgers’s in the lineup; Lazard is coming off a huge game in which he snagged six passes for 114 yards and a touchdown, which came on a Hail Mary at the end of the first half.

The arrival of Adams likely does not bode well for Williams, who has struggled to get involved in the Jets offense. Williams has only 10 receptions for 145 yards in six games. In each of the last two games, Williams was targeted on a game-sealing interception by Rodgers and contributed to allowing the interception by failing to make a play on the ball at the catch point.

Adams is expected to make his Jets debut next Sunday in Pittsburgh when the Jets battle the 4-2 Steelers on Sunday Night Football.
