The New York Jets’ 2024 season continues to spiral closer and closer to rock bottom. Already down their head coach and general manager, the 3-8 squad is inching its way toward the top spot in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Thursday night yielded a positive result for the Jets’ long-term future. The previously 2-8 Cleveland Browns took out the AFC North-leading Pittsburgh Steelers, bringing the Browns to 3-8 on the season and tying them with the Jets. Since Cleveland has a weaker strength of schedule than the Jets, New York leaped the Browns in the draft order, moving up from 7th to 6th.

Here is a look at the top 10 of the draft order as of Friday morning:
- Jacksonville (2-9 / .494 SOS)
- Tennessee (2-8 / .514)
- NY Giants (2-8 / .520)
- Las Vegas (2-8 / .525)
- New England (3-8 / .472)
- NY Jets (3-8 / .508)
- Cleveland (3-8 / .511)
- Carolina (3-7 / .486)
- Dallas (3-7 / .525)
- New Orleans (4-7 / .486)
The Jets are in a favorable spot to keep climbing, and even make a serious push for the No. 1 pick if they do not figure things out after the bye week. They are tied for the second-most losses in the NFL, and they are only one loss behind the league-worst Jaguars (2-9). They also have a lower SOS than three of the five teams ahead of them in the draft order.
As of now, the Jets would win tiebreakers against the Raiders, Giants, and Titans (all 2-8). They would not win tiebreakers against the Patriots (3-8) and Jaguars (2-9).
It’s up to each Jets fan to decide how they want to approach rooting for the team over these final six games. All we can do at Jets X-Factor is report the facts. Right now, it’s worth reporting that the New York Jets moved up one spot in the draft order last night, and that they have a clear road to the top of the mountain if their struggles persist.
