To put it lightly, Rex Ryan thinks he can turn around the New York Jets.
In an interview with Bart Scott and Alan Hahn, the former head coach gave his pitch for why he should be considered for the team’s head coach vacancy, even going so far as to call out another potential candidate by name.

“Blow it up? We are going to blow the opponents up. There is way too much talent on this team to play the way we have been playing. Period. How hard can you get a guy to play? Nobody has seen a team play the way that this team is going to play in the future if I am the guy. Trust me,” said Ryan.
“That’s what is going to separate me from all of these other guys you are going to bring in—your [Jon] Grudens, whoever, whatever. Give me a break. They ain’t New York Jets. I’m all about the Jets… when I look around, I know nobody is better than me.”
Ryan is a fascinating option for the Jets as they begin their head coaching search, but not for all good reasons.
On the positive side of things, he would bring passion to the position. He would truly understand how the New York market operates and how to get the most out of his team under that scrutiny.
On the other hand, Ryan has been out of coaching for a long time. Has he adjusted to the modern game? Can he build a defense similar to his glory days? Can he hire the right coaches for the offensive side of the ball?
There will be plenty of rumors and stories regarding the overall search. It will be interesting to see if Ryan actually has a real chance at becoming head coach of the Jets once again.
