NY Jets’ Garrett Wilson clowns Jalen Ramsey in IG post

The New York Jets may not have beaten their rival, but Garrett Wilson certainly beat one of his.

Wilson posted a video on Instagram showing him destroying Miami cornerback Jalen Ramsey on an out-and-up. He wrote “broken coverage” in quotations to mock those who claimed he was only open due to a coverage bust.

On this particular route, it appears that Wilson’s altered route pacing fooled Ramsey, making him slow to react to the double move. A better ball from Aaron Rodgers and this could be a touchdown.

According to Pro Football Focus, Wilson totaled four catches for 97 yards on six targets when matched up with Ramsey, part of his seven-catch, 114-yard performance against the Dolphins. As Jets X-Factor’s Andrew Fialkow detailed, Wilson could have had a lot more than that. It ultimately wasn’t enough, as Miami rallied to force overtime and scored a game-winning touchdown.

Still, it was the most yardage Ramsey has allowed to a single player in at least seven years. Davante Adams added a 34-yard reception against the three-time All-Pro. In total, Ramsey allowed six catches for 146 yards, the third-most yards he’s ever given up in a game (regular or postseason) in his nine-year career.

This may seem like an outlier for Wilson, as he was rarely targeted when facing Ramsey in 2023. In two games, Wilson had just one catch on two targets for nine yards against the cornerback. However, the film indicated that Wilson was consistently open and was victimized by the Jets’ poor blocking and quarterback play.

Overall, it has been yet another demoralizing season for Wilson. After calling 2023 the “worst year of my life,” he expected 2024 to be different. Instead, the Jets are far worse than they were in his first two seasons. He is on pace to surpass his career highs in receptions and yards and has already set his high in touchdowns (5). That means little to him without team success, though.

Still, there is some personal achievement that matters to him. Beating Ramsey means enough to Wilson for him to post about it on Instagram. It serves to show what Wilson is capable of, and what has not worked out enough in 2024.
