The New York Jets’ offense has disappointed this season, but wide receiver Garrett Wilson has managed to shine through the misery once again.
In his third NFL season, the former 10th overall pick has accumulated 97 receptions (sixth among wide receivers), 1,053 receiving yards (12th), and seven receiving touchdowns (13th).
This is the third time Wilson has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in as many seasons. So far in his career, Wilson has racked up 275 receptions, 3,198 yards, and 14 touchdowns.
Wilson is the first Jets wide receiver in franchise history to begin his career with three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, and he is only the second Jet to ever have three consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards. George Sauer achieved this feat from 1968 to 1970 while catching passes from Joe Namath.
While that alone is impressive, Wilson notched another historic feat that puts him in rarified air across the entire NFL. He is only the fifth player in NFL history to record at least 80 receptions and 1,000 yards in each of their first three seasons.
The other four players? Odell Beckham Jr., Michael Thomas, Justin Jefferson, and Ja’Marr Chase.
Not bad company.
Wilson immediately made an impact upon joining the Jets, and he has not slowed down since despite a revolving door at quarterback. Eight different quarterbacks have thrown him the ball in the last three years:
- Aaron Rodgers
- Zach Wilson
- Joe Flacco
- Mike White
- Chris Streveler
- Tim Boyle
- Trevor Siemian
- Tyrod Taylor
With the inconsistent quarterback play holding him back, Wilson has grown frustrated, leading to rumors that he plans to request a trade.
There has been plenty of speculation about Wilson’s long-term future in New York. It’s up to whoever the Johnsons bring in to appease him and have him buy into their vision for the team. They shouldn’t think twice about making him one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.
