An unsung hero has won the New York Jets’ Curtis Martin Team MVP award for the 2024 season.
In an announcement on Friday, the Jets revealed that linebacker Jamien Sherwood was voted by his teammates as the team’s Most Valuable Player.
Sherwood spoke about the award in a press release on the team’s official website.
“That’s crazy because you got Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, C.J. [Mosley], Quincy [Williams], Garrett [Wilson], Quinnen [Wiliams]. To be voted by guys like that means the world to me. I’d say it wasn’t just my on-the-field presence, but off the field as well, in the locker room, in the cafeteria, in the meeting rooms,” said Sherwood.
“Obviously, this season hasn’t gone the way we wanted it to, but finding some type of positivity when we walk into this building just so that we can have a good day so that we can look forward to Sunday to being one of the better days of this year.”
Stepping in for the injured C.J. Mosley, Sherwood has turned into one of the most productive linebackers in football. He ranks third in the NFL with 152 total tackles, including a league-high 95 solo tackles. The Auburn product has been a big asset for New York against the run, notching a 79.1 run defense grade at Pro Football Focus. He has also contributed as a pass rusher, totaling nine pressures and two sacks.
Most importantly, though, Sherwood has been a steady leader for New York in the midst of a very difficult season. He was extremely valuable to this year’s Jets, and if they are smart, they will ensure that he continues providing value for years to come.
