With the 2024 season in the rearview mirror, the New York Jets have turned their sights toward finding their next general manger and head coach.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that New York has requested interviews with Kansas City Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi and Los Angeles Rams senior personnel executive Ray Farmer. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the team will interview Philadelphia Eagles assistant GM Alec Halaby on Wednesday.
It is good to see New York casting a wide net for both their general manager and head coaching searches. The organization needs to hear from a variety of candidates who hold different philosophies and backgrounds. Only after they cast this net can the best candidates be selected.
Borgonzi, the Chiefs’ assistant general manager, has worked closely with Brett Veach to build the Chiefs into a powerhouse organization on the field. He would bring a winning pedigree to an organization that badly needs one.
Halaby and Farmer also come from great organizations. Farmer, working directly with the Rams’ Les Snead during the draft process, has consistently helped Los Angeles find diamonds in the rough. Halaby comes from the Eagles, an organization that does everything right from a front-office perspective. He held various analytics-based responsibilities under Eagles GM Howie Roseman.
New York has to choose the right candidate for their organization. They must find the candidate with the right philosophy and mindset to help bring the franchise back to contention. So far, the Jets are handling the process correctly by casting a wide net.
