Aaron Glenn already has some targets for his coaching staff, including familiar names in Florham Park.

FOX Sports’ Jordan Schulz listed possible candidates for the New York Jets’ coaching staff under Glenn, highlighted by former Jets quarterback Mark Brunell and former Jets special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff. Steve Wilks, Chris Banjo, Thomas Brown, and Todd Haley are also mentioned as rumored candidates.

Additionally, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported Glenn could target Los Angeles Rams pass-game coordinator Nick Caley, Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, and Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown for the Jets’ offensive coordinator role.

Glenn is evidently focusing on a mix of experience and upside for his new coaching staff.

Steve Wilks, who is reportedly being targeted as Glenn’s defensive coordinator, has been a head coach and defensive coordinator in multiple locations. He most recently served as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator in 2023.

Thomas Brown served as an interim head coach and offensive play caller for the Chicago Bears this season, while he was the Carolina Panthers’ offensive coordinator in 2023. Todd Haley and Mike Westhoff are two respected coaches who have built long careers at the NFL level.

Conversely, former Jets quarterbacks Mark Brunell and Josh McCown combine high-level playing experience with enough coaching experience to warrant a promotion. Nick Caley and Jerrod Johnson are fast-rising candidates.

It is still early, but Glenn’s hire is already paying dividends. A longtime player and coach in the NFL, Glenn is leveraging his connections and relationships, which will allow him to build a diverse staff on both sides of the ball.
