What will the New York Jets do with Aaron Rodgers?
Rumors continue to swirl about Rodgers’ future with the Jets. Ex-Detroit Lions tackle and current radio broadcaster Lomas Brown said he thinks new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn will want to bring back the quarterback for 2025.
But outspoken former Jets receiver and Glenn teammate Keyshawn Johnson vehemently disagrees.
On Fox Sports’ Speak show, Johnson stated about Glenn, “He will not start off his career with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback in September.”
He was so confident that he claimed he would walk miles at 4 a.m. wearing nothing but boxers if the Jets did bring Rodgers back. “He’s not going to allow somebody to tell him what he’s doing.”
Asked if the Rodgers decision is Glenn’s, Johnson said he thinks it is, even without a general manager hire.
Johnson resoundingly endorsed Glenn’s ability to change the Jets’ culture, which has become toxic and discombobulated in recent years.
“I can guarantee you 100,000% that coach is going to change [the culture] overnight,” Johnson asserted. “He’s not the typical quiet, not going to say anything — no, he’s going to challenge his players, just like he did as a defender.”
Johnson echoed Glenn’s statement that he is a “football coach” and not just a defensive coordinator.
It remains to be seen whether Johnson is correct about Glenn’s decision. The coach may not have made a final decision yet pending the general manager hire. Additionally, though the Jets could release Rodgers as soon as the season ends, they would be forced to wait until the beginning of the new league year in March to do so with a post-June 1 designation.
Rodgers seemingly hinted that he wants to keep playing when he stated his future in New York would be up to the new regime. The question remains whether it will be with the Jets.
