According to a new report, the spot of the New York Jets' third-round pick was previously misreported; it is actually their own.

It isn’t every day that an NFL team moves up 19 spots in the draft for nothing, but the New York Jets essentially did that on Friday – at least in terms of what was known to the public.

Entering Friday, it was believed that the Jets owned one third-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft: the No. 92 overall selection, acquired via the Detroit Lions. The pick was acquired by New York in a 2024 trade, which occurred on the third day of the draft. In exchange for the No. 126 overall pick in the fourth round (which Detroit used on offensive lineman Giovanni Manu), the Jets received Detroit’s 2025 third-round pick, which landed at No. 92.

The Jets would later trade for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams in October 2024. Until now, it was believed that the Jets sent their own 2025 third-round pick to Las Vegas in exchange for Adams, which landed at No. 73. However, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Jets actually sent Detroit’s third-round pick (No. 92) to Las Vegas, which means the Jets still possess their own third-round pick (No. 73).

This news surfaced due to the Raiders’ trade for Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, which was announced Friday evening. Las Vegas traded a third-round selection to Seattle for Smith. It was previously believed that Las Vegas held New York’s No. 73 overall selection, but the Smith trade prompted the reveal that Las Vegas actually received Detroit’s No. 92 overall pick by way of the Adams trade with New York.

To make a long story short, the Jets’ third-round pick is actually their own (No. 73 overall), not Detroit’s (No. 92), which was the belief since the Davante Adams trade was announced in October.

The Jets’ collection of 2025 draft picks now appears as follows:

  • Jets’ 1st round (No. 7)
  • Jets’ 2nd round (No. 42)
  • Jets’ 3rd round (No. 73)
  • Jets’ 4th round (No. 109)
  • Jets’ 5th round (No. 146)
  • Steelers’ 5th round (No. 157)
  • Jets’ 6th round (No. 188)
  • Chiefs’ 6th round (No. 209)

The Jets themselves already knew this, but it was unbeknownst to the general public. It is a welcome piece of news for Jets fans to discover that one of their team’s premium selections is more than half a round higher than they thought.
