The New York Jets have tendered restricted free agent safety Tony Adams.
On Monday afternoon, the Jets announced they have officially placed their right-of-first-refusal tender on Adams, per the team’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Since Adams was an RFA, the Jets had the opportunity to match any offer that the safety received on the open market.
Adams, 26, signed with the Jets in 2022 as an undrafted free agent. In 2024, Adams totaled 84 tackles, two tackles for loss, five pass breakups, and an interception while appearing in 15 games and earning 11 starts. Adams also earned a 67.5 coverage grade courtesy of Pro Football Focus, ranking 20th 64 among safeties who played 50% of their team’s defensive snaps.
Among his three NFL seasons, 2023 was his top year. The 26-year-old totaled 84 tackles, six tackles for loss, and three interceptions across 15 starts. He also put forth a 65.2 PFF coverage grade, ranking 32nd among 63 qualified safeties.
The tender will cost the Jets $3.2 million in guarantees for the 2025 season.
Safety is widely regarded as a need for the Jets. While it is far from a guarantee that Adams will be a Week 1 starter, he certainly provides serviceable depth at a reasonable price.
Expect the Jets to add a name or two on the free-agent market. Some notable names on the open market include Justin Reid, Jevon Holland, and Justin Simmons.
Tony Adams joins 2024 UDFA Jarius Monroe as the second safety under contract on the New York Jets roster.
