New York Jets mock draft: Can EDGE Abdul Carter fall to No. 7?

Thanks to Jaxson Dart's rise, Penn State EDGE defender Abdul Carter has fallen to the New York Jets at No. 7 in a recent mock draft.

Jaxson Dart’s rise in the 2025 NFL draft definitely impacts the New York Jets, but it may come in a more uncommon form.

PFF’s recent mock draft has the Tennessee Titans selecting the Ole Miss quarterback at No. 3, which pushes stud EDGE defender Abdul Carter to the Jets at No. 7.

In fact, PFF’s latest iteration features the top three quarterbacks at one, two, and three. It works seamlessly due to a New York Giants-Titans trade that has them flip spots in the top three.

  1. New York Giants (from TEN): Cam Ward (QB-MIA)
  2. Cleveland Browns: Shedeur Sanders (QB-COL)
  3. Tennessee Titans (from NYG): Jaxson Dart (QB-MISS)
  4. New England Patriots: Will Campbell (OT-LSU)
  5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Travis Hunter (DB/WR-COL)
  6. Las Vegas Raiders: Tet McMillan (WR-ARI)
  7. New York Jets: Abdul Carter (EDGE-PSU)
  8. Carolina Panthers: Mason Graham (IDL-MICH)
  9. New Orleans Saints: Shemar Stewart (EDGE-A&M)
  10. Chicago Bears: Donovan Ezeiruaki (EDGE-BC)

Carter, 21, is arguably the best player in the draft, but the latest has him slipping a smidge in the top 10. Initially mulling potential foot surgery, Carter has opted against it.

Nonetheless, the arguably most talented player in the pool is not a lock for the top three.

In addition to PFF’s latest mock, The 33rd Team also mocked Carter to the Jets at No. 7 a few days prior. Incredibly, this mock showcased the Las Vegas Raiders selecting Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty at No. 6, a pick before the Jets landed Carter.

Coming from Penn State—a college sporting a rich tradition of EDGE rushers—Carter was noticeably the best player on the collegiate field in 2024. Carter collected 12 sacks, 43 solo tackles, 4 passes defended, and an absurd 24 tackles for loss in 16 games.

The Philadelphia, PA, native had been (and still is, for the most part) a top-five lock for the majority of the offseason. On Sunday, the overall consensus still had the Cleveland Browns snagging Carter at No. 2.

Although it’s tough to believe Carter will fall to No. 7, it’s pretty easy to imagine Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey excitingly losing their minds of it happens. While I’ll still bet on Glenn seeking beef in the trenches at No. 7—Will Campbell, Mason Graham, or Missouri’s Armand Membou—it’s doubtful he’d pass on such a fortunate situation.
