Interceptions were hard to come by for the New York Jets defense in 2024; they snagged only seven, tied for the fourth-fewest in football. Perhaps a certain Queens native will help turn that stat around in 2025.
Andre Cisco comes to the Jets on a one-year, $10 million contract, joining his hometown team as their new projected starter at free safety. The Syracuse product brings a solid playmaking resume to the takeaway-starved New York defense; since 2022, he ranks eighth among safeties in interceptions (8) and 11th in passes defended (22).
However, alongside Cisco’s playmaking comes a volatile profile. While he recorded seven interceptions from 2022-23, he dropped to just one in 2024. He allowed career-highs of three touchdowns and 370 yards in coverage while also missing a career-high 11 tackles.
With Cisco coming off a down year, the Jets elected to sign the 25-year-old for only one year, limiting the long-term risk. They are betting that the New York native can return to his previous heights as a ball hawk while cutting down on the mistakes that hurt him in 2024.
Considering his up-and-down resume, it is fair to wonder: Who exactly is Andre Cisco as a player? What should Jets fans expect from him in Aaron Glenn and Steve Wilks’ defense?
