The New York Jets’ pre-draft meetings with prospects are in full swing.
After learning on Friday of the Jets’ meeting with Texas A&M defensive lineman Shemar Stewart, a new report reveals that New York met with two others Aggies defenders as well.
According to Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline, the Jets met with two more prospects at Texas A&M’s pro day, defensive linemen Shemar Turner and Nic Scourton.
Turner is a potential target for the Jets in the third round with the No. 73 overall pick. Ranked 81st overall on NFL Mock Draft Database’s consensus big board, the Texas A&M product measured at 6-foot-3 and 290 pounds at the NFL combine in Indianapolis.
Turner, 22, was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. After committing to Texas A&M, he spent all four of his college seasons as an Aggie, appearing in 43 total games, compiling 115 total tackles (including 24 for loss) and 10 sacks.
While playing all over Texas A&M’s defensive line, Tuner had his most productive collegiate season in 2023, posting 33 total tackles (including 11 for loss) and a career-high six sacks.
If Aaron Glenn and Steve Wilks want to add a versatile piece to the defensive line in the third round, Turner should be a serious option if he is still on the board.
Scourton, 20, was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. The edge rusher committed to Texas A&M, where he spent all three of his college seasons. Appearing in 37 total games, Scourton logged 109 total tackles (including 31 for loss), coupled with 17 sacks.
Similar to Turner, Scourton had his breakout season in 2023. Across 11 games, the Byron, Texas native had 50 total tackles (15 for loss), with his only double-digit sack season (10).
While primarily playing on the outside, the Aggie also contributed to the interior defensive line in 2024, logging just under 10% of his snaps inside.
Jets X-Factor’s Michael Nania tabbed the 20-year-old as a potential fit to replace John Franklin-Myers’ former role with the Jets as a versatile defensive lineman.
Ranked No. 37 overall on the consensus big board, Scourton could provide much-needed depth off the edge if available in the second round, a position where the Jets lack depth.
Behind Will McDonald and Jermaine Johnson, who suffered an Achilles tear in Week 2 of the 2024 season, the Jets have several edge defenders likely to compete for roster spots in training camp, including Rashad Weaver, Eric Watts, Micheal Clemons, and Braiden McGregor. Depth is needed at the position, and it would not be surprising if the Jets looked toward Texas A&M’s stable of talented prospects for help.
