Are Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey prioritizing the tight end position with the No. 7 overall pick?

Per Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline, Penn State tight end Tyler Warren is “focusing” on showcasing himself to a handful of teams ahead of the draft – including the New York Jets.

Pauline wrote, “Warren’s choice to stand on the sidelines [at Penn State’s pro day] was something I’ve been privy to for a few weeks now. I was told the tight end is focusing on a handful of teams and will showcase his talents for them before the draft. The New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Indianapolis Colts were three of the teams named,” Pauline added.

Many analysts view Warren as the top tight end in the year’s NFL draft; he ranks ninth overall on NFL Mock Draft Database’s consensus big board.

The 22-year-old spent five seasons with the Penn State Nittany Lions (2020-24), redshirting his 2020 freshman season. Throughout his college career, Warren appeared in 56 games, catching 159 passes for 1,839 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Warren made his presence known during the 2024 season, reeling in 104 catches for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns while ranking second among tight ends with 19 missed tackles forced and third with 13 contested catches.

Wearing No. 44 because of former Jets running back John Riggins, the Nittany Lion also provided value in the blocking game on top of his impact as a pass catcher. However, his blocking needs some technical refinement at the NFL level, as broken down by Jets X-Factor’s Joe Blewett.

After losing Tyler Conklin and Kenny Yeboah in free agency, the tight end position is a glaring need for Gang Green with less than one month until the draft. The only players under contract are Jeremy Ruckert, Zack Kuntz, Neal Johnson, and free agent addition Stone Smartt. The trio has combined for fewer than 650 yards over the past three seasons.

With a significant need at tight end, it would make plenty of sense for Darren Mougey to select Warren with the No. 7 overall pick.
