The 2025 NFL draft is closing in, and the New York Jets are ramping up their pre-draft meetings with prospects.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Jets have scheduled a local visit with Penn State safety Jaylen Reed.

A “local visit” refers to a pre-draft visit to a team’s facility by a player who either grew up in or attended college in the team’s local area. These visits do not count against the team’s 30-player limit for official pre-draft visits.

A product of Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Detroit, Michigan, Reed was a four-star recruit who committed to Penn State. He ultimately spent all four of his college seasons in Happy Valley.

Throughout his four seasons as a Nittany Lion, Reed appeared in 50 games, posting 181 total tackles (13 for loss), with three interceptions, seven passes defended, and one forced fumble.

The safety really put his name on the map in 2024, appearing in all 16 games for the Nittany Lions, logging 98 total tackles (seven for loss) with three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), three passes defended, and one forced fumble. Standing at six feet and 211 pounds, Reed is highly effective when playing in the box.

Despite tendering Tony Adams and signing Andre Cisco in free agency, the Jets could still use depth at safety, particularly at strong safety, and Reed fits that bill for Gang Green.

Ranked No. 132 overall on the Mock Draft Database consensus big board, Reed could be a late-round option who adds depth and brings versatility with his ability to play in the box. The Jets own the 145th overall pick in the fifth round.
