With the 2025 NFL draft around the corner, the New York Jets are ramping up pre-draft prospect visits and meetings. Most recently, they hosted a projected late-round cornerback for a local visit.
According to FanSided’s Arye Pulli, the Jets hosted Rutgers cornerback Robert Longerbeam for a local pre-NFL draft visit.
A three-star recruit coming out of T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia, Longerbeam committed to Rutgers and ultimately spent all five of his collegiate seasons as a Scarlet Knight.
The 24-year-old appeared in 53 total games for the Scarlet Knights, posting 154 total tackles (five for loss), with five interceptions, 37 passes defended, and five forced fumbles.
During the 2024 season, Longerbeam really made his presence felt for Rutgers, logging 45 tackles (two for loss), two interceptions, and 11 pass defenses.
Standing at 5-foot-11 and 178 pounds, the Virginia native is known for his knack for creating turnovers, tallying five interceptions and five forced fumbles over his college career. He is also regarded as a strong leader and a valuable cultural fit.
While ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that the Jets are unlikely to use a high pick on a cornerback, the team could look to add depth at the position in the later rounds.
Ranked No. 215 overall, Longerbeam could be a day three dart throw for the Jets, offering developmental upside and added depth in the secondary. He brings leadership, toughness, and a knack for generating turnovers, three traits head coach Aaron Glenn values in his players.
