What will the New York Jets do with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, which is less than two weeks away? That remains the hottest topic among the team’s fanbase, and the truth is, nobody knows.
With so much uncertainty surrounding their plans, ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller went as far as to label Gang Green the biggest “wild card” in the first round.
“With no clear-cut No. 1 need on a roster with many holes, the Jets could really select any position outside of quarterback with the No. 7 pick,” Miller wrote on Friday. “There has been speculation about trading Breece Hall, so drafting a running back is something we can’t rule out—even if that seems wild.
“Wide receiver, tight end, offensive line, and cornerback are also conceivable options,” Miller continued. “Since the Jets are under a new regime with first-time general manager Darren Mougey, there’s no historical data to rely on when projecting what they’ll do. This could be the first surprise pick in the top 10.”
While the top prospects the Jets have been linked to include Penn State tight end Tyler Warren and Missouri right tackle Armand Membou, they still have several other holes across the roster that Mougey could look to address in the first round.
Other needs include a No. 2 wide receiver, help along the defensive line, and potentially a running back—especially if the team decides to trade Breece Hall.
The Jets could also explore a trade-down scenario, something that has picked up a bit of steam lately.
With several quarterback-needy teams picking behind them (e.g., the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints), Mougey may consider moving back to acquire additional draft capital.
With so many possibilities, all eyes remain on the New York Jets’ plans for No. 7 overall on April 24.
