Is there a possibility the New York Jets will elect to go this route with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft?
In his latest (and shocking) mock draft, Fox Sports’ Nick Wright predicted the Jets will select Michigan cornerback Will Johnson with the No. 7 overall pick.
Here are the top 10 selections of Wright’s mock draft:
- Tennessee Titans: Cam Ward, QB, Miami
- Cleveland Browns: Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado
- New York Giants: Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State
- New England Patriots: Will Campbell, OL, LSU
- Jacksonville Jaguars: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State
- Las Vegas Raiders: Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
- New York Jets: Will Johnson, CB, Michigan
- Carolina Panthers: Tetairoa McMillian, WR, Arizona
- New Orleans Saints: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
- Chicago Bears: Mason Graham, DL, Michigan
Hailing from Grosse Pointe South High School in Michigan, Johnson was a highly touted five-star recruit. Johnson stayed in his home state for his collegiate career, committing to Michigan and spending all three of his college seasons in Ann Arbor.
Throughout his three seasons, the Detroit native appeared in 32 games for the Wolverines, totaling 68 combo tackles (four for loss), with nine interceptions (three returned for touchdowns) and 10 passes defended.
Johnson’s most productive collegiate season came in 2023, appearing in 12 games for Jim Harbaugh’s squad, posting 27 total tackles (one for loss), four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and four pass defenses while earning first-team All-American honors.
In 2024, the former five-star recruit was on pace for a career year. Through six games, Johnson recorded 14 total tackles (one for loss), two interceptions (both returned for touchdowns), and three passes defended. However, his season was cut short after six games due to turf toe and a shoulder injury.
Ranked No. 12 overall on Mock Draft Database’s consensus big board, Johnson will most likely be available when the Jets select at No. 7. However, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Darren Mougey is unlikely to use a high draft pick on a cornerback after signing Brandon Stephens to a three-year contract in free agency.
Many fans would be shell-shocked to hear Johnson’s name called at No. 7, but surprises are a draft-night tradition.
