Perhaps Penn State’s Tyler Warren isn’t the only tight end the New York Jets will strongly consider selecting with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
In his latest mock draft, where he lists what every team “should” do with their first-round pick, NFL.com’s Adam Rank believes the Jets should select Michigan tight end Colston Loveland at No. 7.
“You [Jets] should have taken Brian Thomas Jr. last year (like I said to), but you didn’t, so now you still need receiving help, with the depth chart behind Garrett Wilson currently filled out by Josh Reynolds and Allen Lazard,” wrote Rank. “Loveland, Wilson, and Breece Hall are a strong top three to go with my guy Justin Fields. As I’ve told teams before in this mock, and as I’ll tell them again: Wait on help for the O-line.”
A former four-star recruit, Loveland spent all three of his college seasons at Michigan, where he emerged as one of the top tight ends in the country. Over 39 career games, he racked up 117 receptions for 1,466 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Idaho native compiled an impressive 2024 season, finishing with 56 catches, 582 yards, and five touchdowns across 10 games, while earning second-team All-American honors.
Currently ranked No. 18 overall on Mock Draft Database’s consensus big board, Loveland is praised for his fluid route-running, reliable hands, and overall athleticism.
While selecting Loveland over Warren would be a surprise, anything can happen on draft night, as we all know. Jets X-Factor’s Michael Nania recently displayed an in-depth breakdown comparing the two.
One week away from draft night, tight end remains a glaring need for New York. Jeremy Ruckert and free-agent addition Stone Smartt currently lead the depth chart, despite the duo having combined for fewer than 650 career receiving yards.
Loveland would immediately boost the position room for Tanner Engstrand’s offense, giving New York a much-needed explosive weapon behind Garrett Wilson.
