Perhaps Penn State’s Tyler Warren, LSU’s Will Campbell, and Missouri’s Armand Membou aren’t the only prospects the New York Jets are targeting with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron could be a “curveball” to watch for the Jets.
“One name that I think is sort of interesting here – if there is a curveball, and I think this is too high for him, but if there is a curveball – it has been pointed out to me how good of a fit Jahdae Barron, the defensive back from Texas, would be for Aaron Glenn’s system,” said Breer.
“That is one I would file away if they were able to trade down somehow, maybe Barron is somebody that comes on the radar for them,” he continued. “I like the idea of that there.”
Hailing from John B. Connally High School in Austin, Texas, Barron initially committed to TCU as a four-star recruit before switching his commitment to Texas.
A five-year contributor and three-year starter for Texas, Barron appeared in 57 total games for the Longhorns, posting 226 total tackles (21 for loss) with eight interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 24 passes defended, and one forced fumble.
His most dominant season came in 2024, when he appeared in 16 games and recorded 67 total tackles (three for loss), five interceptions, and 11 pass breakups.
Barron is known for his exceptional closing speed and versatility in the secondary. He has experience at nickel, outside corner, and even safety.
Ranked No. 14 overall on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board, it would be slightly rich for the Jets to take Barron at No. 7, especially after signing Brandon Stephens to a three-year deal worth up to $36 million this offseason. As Breer stated, Barron could be a more realistic option in a potential trade-down scenario.
Barron may not be Plan A for Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn, but he’s certainly in the mix if the board shifts and New York decides to trade back.
