Reporting from Florham Park, NJNew York Jets general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn have made it clear that they want to operate this offseason in silence.

After years of anonymous sources plaguing the organization and adding distractions, the new process has been a welcome sight for Jets fans.

Mougey’s comments made Monday morning during his pre-draft meeting only enhanced that thought process. Not only did the Jets not give anything away, but the team enhanced their new overall thoughts on how to move forward through the offseason.

Jets Moving In Silence

Glenn kicked off league meetings late in March by explaining his goal to have the Jets “moving in silence,” whether through their free agent interest or draft philosophy. Mougey made clear he was all on board with this way of thinking.

That includes hiding the team’s strategy when it comes to debating whether to take the best player available or a player with a top positional need for the organization.

“That’s an age old question, needs verse, but we’re always going to go in there and stack these guys how we view them as players and how they can help us and kind of let the board fall to us and just add players we think can help us win, good football players,” Mougey explained.

Mougey didn’t give up anything when it came to information regarding the team’s draft strategy. In fact, the only real piece of news came when the executive announced his intentions to accept the fifth-year options on the team’s first-round picks from 2022.

Those were all to be expected. And New York’s tight-lipped process is something more and more teams are trying to do nowadays, with so much pressure on the upcoming draft process.

If there’s a positive takeaway from Monday, outside of New York’s push to remain silent during their offseason decision-making process, it’s that their two leaders continue to remain in lockstep.

Mougey detailed discussions on developing their board and how he and Glenn have worked well together so far. They each have an idea of the players they want to target for the Jets once the draft begins.

“I think there’s a type of brand,” Mougey concluded. “I believe there is a type of brand that we want our players to play with, and it’s a physicality, it’s a toughness, you’re going to feel it, but it’s smart, tough, aggressive, resilient players.”
