Jets’ Breece Hall trade rumors heating up on draft day

It seems that a trade of New York Jets running back Breece Hall may be something that is in the cards on night one of the 2025 NFL draft.

The New York Jets are kicking off a new era of franchise history, and many former top players appear to be in limbo with the new regime this offseason.

One of those players is running back Breece Hall.

Just two years ago, Hall finished fourth in the league in total yards from scrimmage and was seen as an up-and-coming player in the league after another year removed from a torn ACL suffered in his rookie season.

2024 was a major step back, though, and it seems to have left the Iowa State star on the trade block.

Analyst Teases Increased Jets Trade Interest

Senior NFL insider Josina Anderson reported Thursday afternoon that the Jets had been “potentially” shopping Hall “within the last week and a half.”

Anderson’s reporting matches what other league sources have previously reported about Hall’s future being clouded with the Jets, if not this offseason, then certainly next year.

During league meetings, head coach Aaron Glenn made it clear that Hall’s days as the team’s lead back would end this season.

“I think, mentally, [Hall] is in a good place, but I would say that we have three running backs on this team that we’re going to utilize as much as possible,” Glenn said at league meetings in late March. “They’re all big men, they can run, they’re violent, they’re physical.”

Hall’s yards-per-carry average has decreased every year he has been in the league. That includes a drop from 4.5 in 2023 to 4.2 in 2024 despite improvements to his supporting cast at quarterback and offensive line.

There was reason to suspect a running back-by-committee approach would be strong for the still 23-year-old at this point in his career. With fewer touches, Hall could be used as a lightning rod in both the run and passing games for the Jets offense.

That may not be happening anymore, at least if New York can find a quality trade partner for their former second-round pick.
