Reporting from New York Jets HQ in Florham Park, NJ—New York Jets running back Breece Hall is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the team. Under a new regime, it’s not hard to see why New York may want to go in a different direction.
Those thoughts are premature, though, according to general manager Darren Mougey.
After Hall’s name was mentioned in trade talks hours before the 2025 NFL draft, Mougey efficiently halted the idea Thursday night.
Jets cool Breece Hall trade rumors
Speaking to reporters after selecting Missouri tackle Armand Membou with the seventh overall pick, New York’s general manager made it clear that the team wasn’t looking to move the former second-round pick yet.
“I haven’t had any talks with any teams about Breece Hall,” Mougey said from the Jets Atlantic Health Center in Florham Park, NJ. “He’s on the team.”
Mougey’s public comments differ from what reports around the league have said regarding Hall. Senior NFL insider Josina Anderson was one of the reporters who stated that the team had shopped Hall around in trade talks over the last few weeks.
In a deep running back class, and with Hall coming off a down season, the Jets weren’t necessarily vilified for the move, even if it was one they weren’t even thinking of making in the first place.
Hall has seen his per-carry average decrease every year since his rookie season. While he finished fourth in the league in total yards from scrimmage during the 2023 season, he struggled mightily last year.
Perhaps that is why New York is being patient with Hall’s market. After all, teams always look for fair value for players they want to move. Hall’s value has never been lower at this point in his NFL career.
The trade requests surrounding New York’s top back will be something to watch for the rest of the draft. At the very least, their top executive isn’t too worried about trying to ship the star.
It simply isn’t happening.
