Many people forget that New York Jets running back Braelon Allen entered the record books during his rookie campaign. Better yet, most forget just how young the kid actually is.

Allen owns the NFL record for the most rushing yards (334) before age 21.

Allen, 21, was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft and played in all 17 games during his rookie season. Jets X-Factor’s Stefan Stelling touched on the possibility that Allen could snag this record before the 2024 season.

The former Wisconsin standout totaled 334 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 92 carries, averaging 3.6 yards per attempt while primarily serving in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

He also contributed as a receiver, adding 148 yards and one touchdown on 19 catches.

Known for his downhill running style and physical presence, Allen could take on an expanded role in 2025 as the Jets look to revamp their ground game under new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, who joins the team after a stint with the Detroit Lions, where he worked with running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.

Early signs indicate a two-headed backfield featuring Allen and Breece Hall, as New York seeks to establish a more balanced and physical rushing attack.

Allen’s physical, downhill running style complements quarterback Justin Fields, who is often featured in the ground game. His north-south approach aligns well with read-option concepts, enabling Fields to operate more effectively in space.

Pro Football Focus recently named Allen the Jets’ top breakout candidate for the 2025 season.

With an expected increase in touches and a clear opportunity to take on a larger role, Braelon Allen can carve out a significant presence in the New York Jets offense.
